Saminco supplies Electric Locomotive Controllers for Los Angeles Tunneling Project

Traylor Brothers, Inc has taken delivery of Brookville Equipment Locomotives, powered by Saminco Inc A888 Electric Traction Drives. The Brookville model 1050BX, which stands for 10-ton, 50 horsepower, battery-powered, explosion proof locomotive, will be used for hauling supplies into and excavated material out of the tunnel.

The Saminco A888 is a microprocessor controlled Electric Traction Drive specifically designed for this battery-powered locomotive. Operating off of 120VDC (nominal) batteries, the Saminco A888 is a reversible, shunt motor controller with regen braking capability and a built in diagnostics system. In all, 8 controllers were delivered to Brookville for this program. The locomotive approximate dimensions are 205" long, 46" wide, and 64" high.  Track gauge is 24", wheel base is 83", and wheel diameter is 20".

This City of Los Angeles Public Works project includes the construction of an 8.5 km (27,900 ft) sewer tunnel, with a finished diameter (ID RCP pipe) of 8'-0" and an excavation diameter of approximately 12'-0. The use of the tunnel is for sewer replacement. This will be the main trunkline sewer in the area. Expected completion: Jan 2005.
